There is a powerful organ in the body and its primary function is to keep the body operating at its peak. This extraordinary organ is also known as the “Chief of Staff” in Taoist literature. What is the name of this essential organ? The simple answer is the liver. The liver acts as a warehouse, storing and managing metabolic elements, nutrients and wastes products; whether hormonal, or involving minerals, vitamins, carbohydrates, and/or fats and proteins.
In spite of its importance to the health of the body, this vital organ is frequently exposed to harmful and toxic elements that affect the natural operation of the liver. So, what is liver detox? It is simply the reduction and/or removal of the harmful elements found in the liver. Furthermore, with the many advances that have been made in the medical community, there are a number of highly effective liver detox diet programs available for consideration.
On a liver detox diet, there are specific restrictions that are made regarding the intake of foods that the individual eats normally. The consumption of food items such as fruit, raw vegetables, whole grains, filtered water, and cold pressed oils are permitted on the liver detox diet. While the consumption of fried and processed foods, coffee, alcoholic beverages, saturated fats, foods saturated with sugars, toxic and acidic foods are prohibited. Consulting a physician or specialist before beginning a liver detox diet is encouraged and highly recommended as this diet may not be suitable for everyone.
The liver detox process can also be performed by using specific detoxifying herbs such as dandelion; which has proven to stimulate bile production in the body and has demonstrated an ability to cleanse wastes products and pollutants from the liver. Dandelion and another herb known as “fringe tree” have been used in the liver detoxification process for the treatment of cirrhosis, inflammation of the gall bladder and stones, enlarged liver, hepatitis, jaundice, and other serious related liver malfunctions. An added bonus is that the fringe tree can also be used to strengthen organs like the pancreas and spleen. Either way, for a stronger, healthier liver, liver detoxification is important. Eliminating bodily wastes, undigested food, parasites and other toxins from the body, is the primary function of the colon.
